Maiduguri - Six soldiers were injured in an ambush by fighters of Boko Haram sect while they escorted a convoy of Gwoza Local Government Area officials on Saturday.
A group of Boko Haram militants, numbering up to 40, opened fire on the convoy that was being escorted by soldiers of the 121 Task Force Battalion, Pulka along Maiduguri-Bama road, close to Bama, reports Daily Post
However, the soldiers killed 20 members of the Islamic cult, Premium Times reports
While speaking to newsmen, the caretaker council chairman of Gwoza, Saeed Sambo, confirmed that the soldiers fought back fiercely, killing about 20 of the attackers.
He said, “The incident happened at about 5km into Bama town, 10am yesterday, (Saturday) after living Nguro-Soye.“
According to him, the insurgents detonated an IED, followed by sporadic gunshots which was repelled by the gallant soldiers.
