A British woman who was allegedly raped
by two men in Dubai has been told she can
go home after the case collapsed.
The 25-year-old said she was attacked by
two men who have since flown back to the
UK following the alleged incident.
She was not allowed to leave the
country because she was accused of
having ‘extra marital sex’.
However, Dubai
police dropped the
case after watching
mobile phone footage
of the alleged rape.
A statement from
prosecutors said:
‘The office of Dubai
Public Prosecutor has
closed the case involving the alleged rape
of British national ZJM following careful
examination of all evidence.’
They added that ‘the act happened with
the consent of the three parties in
question.
‘A video obtained from the mobile phone of
one of the suspects detailing the act was a
key evidence that supported this
conclusion.’
The woman was on a five-day holiday last
month when the attack happened.
She met the two men at the hotel they
were all staying at – but they lured her to
a room, took turns raping her, and filmed
it, it is claimed.
It was feared she could have been jailed
under the United Arab Emirates’ strict laws,
which states that sex outside marriage is
banned.
The Foreign Office is aware of the case
and is working to support the woman and
her family.
