Nigeria has climbed 10 places to 50th in the latest Fifa ranking
for November, released on Thursday.
It’s the highest ranking by the Super Eagles in over two years since the sack of late coach Stephen Keshi, when the three-time African champions were 44th on the monthly grading of national sides.
With the new ranking, the
Eagles are now eighth in Africa, behind Senegal, Cote d’Ivoire, Tunisia, Egypt, Algeria, Congo DR and Burkina Faso.
Gernot Rohr’s men have been rewarded for defeating Algeria 3-1 in a blockbuster 2018 Fifa World Cup qualifying encounter a fortnight ago in Uyo.
It has been a steady climb up the ranking for the Eagles since the German took charge of the side, as they now enjoy a five-match winning streak that include a 2-1 World Cup qualification win away at Zambia in October.

The other Group B sides in the qualification campaign – Algeria, Cameroon and Zambia – are placed 38th, 65th, and 91st respectively.
Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon 2017) may negatively affect her ranking in the coming year, although the NFF has already lined up a number of friendlies – including a tie with Egypt in January – to keep the team busy.
Lionel Messi’s Argentina remains the top-ranked side on the globe, closely followed by fierce rivals Brazil.
Reigning world champions, Germany, double South American kings, Chile and a resurgent Belgium complete the top five.
The next Fifa ranking will be published on December 22, 2016 – which will determine the winners for the Team of the Year and the Mover of the Year.
