Romelu Lukaku‘s return to Chelsea has been talked up time and time again in recent months, with the Everton striker enjoying one of his finest seasons in the Premier League.
Still only 23, the Belgium international has
long been regarded as one of Europe’s top
young talents, despite his struggles to
establish himself at a top club so far.
Lukaku initially joinedChelsea from Anderlecht when he was still just
17, but failed to nail down a regular first-
team place before enjoying success on
loan at West Brom and Everton before then
joining the latter permanently for £28million in 2014.
The Blues are now said to want him back in a transfer potentially worth as much as
£70million , with Lukaku leading the Premier League scoring charts with 24 goals so far this season.
However, some have questioned his ability to influence the big games, and the stats prove he’s something of a flat-track bully.
Incredibly, Lukaku has failed to repeat his
prolific touch in the matches that matter
most, with the Toffees front-man scoring
only four goals in his last 33 appearances
against the current top six.
If Chelsea are to spend big on bringing
Lukaku back, they will expect far better than that as their big ambitions mean the games against clubs such as Manchester United, City, Arsenal, Tottenham and Liverpool usually help decide the destination of the
title.
