A mother who had conjoined twins has said
she will not be getting them separated.
Chelsea Torres, 22, gave birth to Callie and
Carter on January 30 against the odds after
doctors had advised her to get an abortion.
The twins are now back home in Blackfoot,
Idaho, United States, and doctors say the
babies are healthy despite initially fearing
they would not survive long.
‘I’m so happy I didn’t terminate Callie and Carter, they are amazing,’ Mrs Torres said.
‘I knew termination would not happen and
I’m glad that little speck of thought I did
have, I pushed away.
‘The doctors say because the girls are so healthy, they do not recommend separation.’
She said the pregnancy had been difficult but she was looking forward to the future.
She added: ‘The labour was bad since I went for a planned c section.
‘They did the procedure and it felt really
weird but when they were here I was
extremely happy.’
Mrs Torres, her husband Nick Torres, 22, and their three-year-old son Jaysin had initially moved to Houston, Texas, to be closer to a specialist hospital.
After returning home Mrs Torres said they
are slowly getting used to having conjoined
twins.
‘Their clothing and car seats are completely
different. We have to sew their clothing
together and the car seat is custom made,’
she said.
‘We get some people who stare and we get
some people who say they have been
following our journey.’
