John Terry timed the announcement of his
Chelsea exit to coincide with the club’s
fixture schedule, according to reports.
The Daily Telegraph claims that Terry used
Chelsea’s lack of a match during the week as the opportune moment to confirm that he will end his time at Stamford Bridge this
summer.
After Chelsea’s FA Cup semi-final against
Tottenham on Saturday, Antonio Conte’s side will play at least one game during the week for the remainder of the season.
It’s understood that Terry now wants to help Chelsea focus on winning the Premier League and the FA Cup before addressing his future this summer.
Terry is yet to decide his next club but has
reportedly received offers from the Premier
League, the Chinese Super League and Major League Soccer.
Terry has already confirmed that he plans to continue his playing career beyond this
season but is already studying for his coaching badges.
‘I will always be a Blue and am desperate to
end my final season as a Chelsea player with more silverware,’ said the 36-year-old.
‘I’ve always been conscious that I depart at
the right time, in the right way, and I feel that the end of this season is the right time for the club and I.
‘I’m eager to carry on playing and so will be
looking to continue with a new challenge.
‘Words cannot describe the love I have for
our club and our amazing fans. You mean the world to me and I will never forget the
incredible journey we’ve been on.’
