Tottenham Hotspur’s return to the
Champions League has ended in
disastrous fashion as the crashed out of
the group stages, with a game left to play.
Mauricio Pochettino’s side needed at least
a draw to keep their faint hopes of
qualification to the last-16 alive, and in
reality they needed a win.
A 2-1 defeat to
Monaco ended all
hopes of them going
through and they will
now play off against
CSKA Moscow to see
if they will participate
in the Europa League.
Goals from Djibril
Sidibe and Thomas
Lemar downed Tottenham, whose goal
came through Harry Kane.
After losing to Bayer Leverkusen earlier in
the group stages, the 2-1 defeat ensured
Spurs could not pass the Bundesliga side
due to their worse head-to-head record.
And, of course, Arsenal fans swarmed all
over Twitter to rejoice their early exit.
Spurs being Spurs...
