In a new interview, Julius Malema, the leader of the South African party called the ‘Economic Freedom Fighters’, has revealed why he is such a fierce character: he is simply exhibiting an attitude he thinks is Nigerian. “ I am like Nigerians to white people. Nigerians don’t tolerate any nonsense that comes their way, that’s why there are not so many white people in Nigeria ,” says the vocal politician. He went on to explain that white people “ think Nigerians are rude people. They think the Nigerians they are not polite. But that’s not the case. “ The Nigerians don’t tolerate nonsense, and every time they answer you will think they are fighting, but they are not fighting. They are, in fact, they know what they want .” This statement has many Nigerians looking back on our social behaviours – how we relate with foreigners and if there is any truth to what Malema claims. While some have dismissed the vocal politician’s line of thought as simply reaching, others agree with him. Malema’s statement, however, brings to mind the culture of ‘gra gra’, which explains why a Nigerian can be easily picked from a crowd; their penchant for over assertiveness is often perceived as aggressive and rude. Is it possible then that Malema is simply talking about the Nigerians gra gra which he may have witnessed, especially because we have a large population of Nigerians living in South Africa?

Three suspected drug traffickers were on Friday, arrested by men of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) with 56.6Kg of hard substance at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Kano. The suspected drug pushers were on their way to Malaysia. According to Guardian , One of the suspects (name withheld) told journalists that he was promised 20,000 Pounds Sterling to transport the hard drug to Malaysia. Malaysia and several other Asian countries prescribe the death penalty for drug related crimes and one could only wonder if nobody relays this fact to these drug couriers. Just last week, a Nigerian man, Chijioke Obioha was executed in Singapore for trafficking cannabis. His story is just one of many that should serve as deterrent. Addressing journalists yesterday in Kano, state commander of the NDLEA, Hamza Umar, noted that the agency had placed the suspects and their sponsors on close track prior to their arrest, warning that NDLEA was repositioned to crack down on the drug pushers. The state command of NDLEA also revealed that 2,822.913 Kg of cannabis, 118.1grams of cocaine and 34,971.418 Kg of psychotropic substance were seized in the last 11 months in Kano alone.
