This is five-year-old Bradley Lowery.
He was diagnosed back in 2013 with
neuroblastoma – a tumor particularly
prevalent in children under five. Why it
happens, no one knows.
After two years of
gruelling chemo, he
was essentially free
of the cancer.
But the cancer
returned in June and
since then, Bradley
has been told that his cancer is terminal.
He’ll be going onto oral chemo over
Christmas.
And this year, he’s received over 11,000
Christmas cards from well-wishers.
The card campaign was started by an
Everton fan and since then, Bradley’s
received cards around the world, including
far flung places like Australia.
‘Thanks so much for all your support,’
writes his parents.
‘It is amazing and really brings lots of
comfort to us as a family. The cards,
money and presents are amazing – it is
like Christmas every day.’
Among the presents he’s received have
been an Everton Christmas jumper, and a
signed Luton FC shirt.
The Sunderland fan has also been invited
to be a mascot at tonight’s game against
Chelsea.
His family have raised £700,000, £180,000
over the original target, to send him
abroad for specialist treatment which is
not currently available in this country.
